GUATAMALA
More than 4,000 years ago the Maya appeared in the gorgeous, volcanic land we now call Guatamala. They survived six times longer than the Roman Empire, built huge cities rivaling anything in ancient Egypt, and then they were gone...
Well, not quite.
Today, the Maya represent 75% of the Guatemalan population, and they've kept some wonderful and noteworthy parts of their culture intact through more than a thousand years of repression. This is a country, and a people, you can easily fall in love with. Hopefully, these photographs will give you some small taste - enough that you'll want more.
These are among the most photogenic and lovely people in the world - the Maya of Guatamala.
